Vancouver based artist Kevin Krebs who is known through his Notype.com & Nishi output is known for working on a very own kind of sound exploration and searching for the yet most exciting frequencies between the various radiostations out there on earth. "Solar Cycle" creates a very cold and inhuman atmosphere, partly post-nuclear when the test signals in "A Perfectly Reflecting Earth" evoke. Through the continued slightly distorted whitenoise Kevin unfolds his advanced...

The new album by 'color by numbers' (Jason Corder) aptly titled "The Transitions", represents an epochal evolution in the life of author Jason Corder from isolational observations translated through sound to beautiful, techni-colored daydreamings mingled with childlike curiosities. Through the two year long production span of "The Transitions", Jason underwent a shifting period in his music and life. Through this phase he embraced his roots, solidified a musical philosophy,...

1st thing: BEWARE OF BROKEN EAR DAMAGE ON "KARJE" One of todays most important composers of classical music is Toivo Tulev, the father of Taavi. For Autoplate, Taavi cuts, smashes, mingles, constructs and keeps defining the new school of electronica folklore from Estonia. 13 neo-dsp songs which are mad and randomly structured, but in the end agree on one point: beautieful. Taavi keeps playing various instruments of undefined origin and, if you listen carefully, unfolds...

Resembling an insect zoo of skittering electronic tones and textures, one is advised to be on guard as they envelope three-dimensional space via binaural injection. This electronically-multicolored sinus zoo, consisting of sticky circuits, misplaced clicks, and sutured noise fragments provide rhythmic and textural counterpoint to the subtle atmospheres and moods generated from grain clouds set aloft by Andrey's unique genius. Kirichenko composes music without clear rules and definable borders....

After exploring the Highlands with Emil Klotzsch's "Tiefe Berge" Autoplates journey continues to a city that is famous for its culture and the White Nights - St. Petersburg/Russia. Protogroup with their new release "Loves Gives Strength To My Soul" started with a classical background to make their first experiments in electronic music in 1995. Influenced by The Orb and F.S.O.L. they created their first ambient sounds in 1999 along with a spiritual awakening. "Love Gives...

"Songs for Sunhi (Summerrain)" is the third part of a cycle of series by Munich digital-folk artist Konrad Bayer. After the works "Dreams of Leaving" on Genesungswerk, reflecting Autumn; and "Shall We Go To The Park?" reflecting Spring; it's now time to dedicate a series of miniatures to the fading blossoms of the German Summer of 2004. This was no Summer at all, compared to the heat-wave of 2003, and Konrad makes sure you can feel that it's been quite a rainy one....

"The Highlands consist of an old dissected plateau, or block, of ancient crystalline rocks with incised valleys and lochs carved by the action of mountain streams and by ice, the resulting topography being a wide area of irregularly distributed mountains whose summits have nearly the same height above sea-level, but whose bases depend upon the amount of denudation to which the plateau has been subjected in various places." 'Holzwege' (meaning wood-ways) is a topic of mine since I've studied philosophy. The German philosopher Martin Heidegger used this scene to describe the way man are used to percept reality. Imagine you awake within a dark forest. You can't percept the whole forest, only the environment around you. To learn more about the forest, you cut down some trees and create some space. Now the light (symbol of thinking/logos) can illuminate the scene and you will see a little bit more. While cutting more...

Being Stud on those labels, Alexey works on Autoplate under his moniker Gultskra Artikler. On Autoplate they start our focus on the east-europe musicscene which will last for a couple of releases, and bring a 12 song ep which thematically deals with the exploration of...

The original Uruguayian Fernando Lagreca, nowadays residing in Barcelona, delivers a sweet album of south american electronica, yet poppy in it's unconventionality. Fernando knows how to create dreamy melodies unfolding a melancholic touch with a very minimal setup. Light like a butterfly melodies meet fragile bitcrushed fragments, to create chilly moods with sparse beats. Although the main track itself may surprise with the panned acoustic guitars.

"Normal Music is the choice of music for Normal people" is the statement of this mutual project of the swedish designer Thomas Ekelund, the Zeromoon Labelowner Jeff Surak and the Puerto-Rican Raphael Isarri. "Normal Music" is not so normal as the name might imply - not just another boring laptop trio. They focus on merging real instruments, synths, bass guitar, autoharp, field recordings and record players to shape those many sound sources into "normal music"...

Transforming pictures into music is the motivation of the Swede Petter Friberg. At the age of 10, during the age of electronic innovators like Jean-Michel Jarre, Brian Eno and Kraftwerk, Petter did experiments using tape recorders. Together with Thomas Krome and friends he built up a studio during the mid 90's, listening to The Orb, F.S.O.L. and Aphex Twin. The efforts resulted in several techno/house 12''s under his 'Superstereo' moniker, but more recently Petter unveiled a new project with...

A fresh artist hailing from the British Island is Arrial, whose demo arrived just about 6 weeks ago. His first release for Autoplate consists of three fine classic guitar songs mixed up with sparse, yet playful and effective electronic elements. I got my first spanish guitar at the age of 5. No idea what prompted me to want it but it's been my lifelong companion ever since - even through the years that it spent in its case gathering dust in the corner of an unused room while I fiddled around...

Danny Kreutzfeldt is a danish producer who recently moved to Aalborg. Here're some dark floating ambient streams which pulsate like the blood in your veins. "Core 3" slowly erupts and breeds while tribal toms performs a slow, almost mystic pattern. On "Hall" you can hear minimal plinking sounds in a widely reverbed room, while the panned stringstabs make the time stand still. The long "Core 4" fades in with faraway window blinds, notchy filtered strings and effects...

I talked to Jan aka UndaCova about the inspiration and intention of this album. "Here I projected my feelings/ideas into sound and I think the same goes for David...

Kenneth Kirschner was born in 1970 in Princeton, New Jersey, and began studying piano at the age of 5. Starting to study Composition at College briefly he found the academic atmosphere of the time (1988) to be too conservative and stifling, with little support for electronic music or for experimental approaches. He therefore gave up studying Music academically and moved to New York City to develop his work on his own. Kenneth spent the 1990s composing and developing his style, while doing...

To gain insight into Off The Sky's (Jason Corder) current work we cast a ray through "Caustic Light EP". This EP grew up evolutionary to what it is now - a collection of four tracks whose atmosphere is created by guitar particles and floating ambient scapes. Australias Epoq works under his Sable guise with long evolving layers of mystic, yet mindcleaning and calm ambient spheres. He aims to develop music which can quiet and focus the mind. Music can and does play an important role in meditative practice. 'Sable' seeks to create music which is less complex and intellectually demanding than my other music, yet also not devoid of an ability to alter one's mood. While these tracks may be intended to help the listener seek stillness and peace of mind,...

A swimmer is always on the run and so is Nadador - it is about movement and progression." Fernando states. Mixing glitches...

With intense detailing, crackling and finely-tuned digital layers, the yet cold atmosphere catches you to listen very closely to the sparse, economically punctuated sounds. Lots of smooth transitions and blends create repetitive microintervals of stereo sounds. Within this space, sparks fly through...

Dighom produces drones and soundscapes, but no new age or elevator muzak. There is always a tension keeping your mind awake. It's very important to Dighom to turn into a mental constitution that permits that music plays the musician and not vice versa. His music would be unthinkable without a living spirituality, where music plays a main role. Don't be afraid: You don't need to convert to some suspicious pagan religion. The awareness of music as an existing intelligence, that is able to...
